The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has dismissed claims that its Chief Executive Officer Ezekiel Mutua has been removed from office, terming the reports false, malicious, and legally unfounded.
In a statement released on Friday, May 9, 2025, MCSK Board Chairperson Ephantus Wahome Kamau clarified that Mutua remains the bona fide CEO and continues to serve in his capacity with the full backing of the current board.
“The MCSK has noted with concern a false and malicious public notice published in the Daily Nation, which wrongly claims that Dr. Ezekiel Mutua is no longer the Chief Executive Officer of MCSK,” said Wahome.
The statement was issued in response to a public notice circulated through media channels, alleging that Mutua was dismissed effective April 3, 2025, and warning stakeholders not to engage with him in any official capacity.
Mutua still in office
Wahome clarified that the individuals behind the notice are former directors whose terms lapsed on February 16 and who no longer have authority to represent the Society in any official capacity.
“These allegations are entirely baseless. Dr. Mutua remains the legitimate CEO of MCSK,” the chairman stated.
The board credited Mutua for streamlining operations and enhancing transparency within the Society since his appointment.
Mutua was appointed CEO of MCSK in 2022 after serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), where he gained public recognition for championing moral standards in the entertainment industry. His entry into MCSK was welcomed as a move to inject reform and professionalism into the organisation.
“The current Board of Directors, as reflected in the official CR12 government records, fully supports Dr Mutua’s leadership and commends his outstanding performance,” Wahome affirmed.
Mutua still in office
MCSK has demanded an immediate and prominent public apology from a local publication for publishing what it terms a defamatory and misleading notice. The Society also threatened legal action if the newspaper fails to issue a correction.
“We operate under lawful governance and will not tolerate attempts to undermine our leadership or mislead stakeholders,” the statement read.
MCSK urged members of the public to disregard the claims and continue engaging with its offices through official channels.
