In a blistering showdown, the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has unleashed a fierce defence of its CEO, Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, torching a “false and malicious” public notice published by the Daily Nation.

The newspaper’s claim? That Mutua had been ousted from his throne at MCSK. The reality? A brazen lie, according to the board, and they’re not holding back.

MCSK National Chairman Ephantus Kamau came out swinging, declaring the accusations “baseless” and affirming that Dr. Mutua remains the ironclad CEO, steering the organisation with unshakable legitimacy.

“The culprits behind this smear campaign are former directors, kicked to the curb on June 16, 2025,” Kamau roared. “They’re ghosts of the past with zero authority to speak for MCSK.”

Kamau didn’t mince words, exposing the ex-directors as power-hungry opportunists peddling misinformation to destabilise the Society.

Their motive? A bitter grudge over Dr. Mutua’s refusal to greenlight a jaw-dropping Sh200 million in alleged arrears they demanded as their parting gift in February.

“These are the tantrums of sore losers,” Kamau sneered, noting that the same board had previously showered Mutua with an “excellent” performance rating before renewing his contract for his stellar leadership.

The current board, backed by the official CR12 records of the Government of Kenya, stands united in its praise for Mutua’s transformative vision.

“MCSK is thriving under lawful governance and bold strategy, serving our members, rights holders, and stakeholders with unwavering commitment,” Kamau declared.

“We urge the public to ignore the venomous lies spread by these impostors masquerading as directors.”

But the real fireworks came when Kamau turned his sights on the Daily Nation. Accusing the newspaper of ignoring warnings against publishing the defamatory notice, he issued a scorching demand: an immediate, front-and-centre public apology, as bold and prominent as the original falsehood.

“No half-measures, no excuses,” he thundered. “Fail to comply, and we’ll unleash every legal weapon in our arsenal to protect Dr. Mutua’s honour and MCSK’s legacy.”

As the clock ticks, the nation watches—will the Daily Nation bow to the pressure, or will this saga explode into a courtroom brawl? One thing’s certain: MCSK’s loyalty to Mutua burns fiercely, and they’re ready to fight tooth and nail to set the record straight.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mutua says he was alerted on Wednesday, May 8, 2025, evening to suspicious fraudulent withdrawals totalling over Sh7.7 million from MCSK’s NCBA Bank accounts, involving former directors and some managers in collusion.

“One withdrawal of Sh 325,000 was paid to Nation Media Group (NMG) for a false advert claiming Dr. Mutua had been sacked, a scheme intended to hinder my efforts to stop the theft of company funds,” said Mutua.

Dr. Mutua said he promptly wrote to NMG requesting due diligence and reported the fraud to Parklands Police Station and the Banking Fraud Unit. He said, despite all the effort, NMG published the malicious advert, aiding the fraud and damaging reputations.

Dr. Mutua remains the CEO and has not been dismissed, as confirmed by fact-checks. The matter is under investigation, with hopes that the culprits will be held accountable, said Dr  Mutua. MCSK members and supporters commend Dr. Mutua for his fight against corruption despite opposition.
