Who Needs a Music Licence?
Any music user who plays music as part of their business operations is required to obtain a music licence. This excludes personal, domestic use.
Venues or businesses that play background music, recorded tracks, or broadcasts in public must secure a music usage licence from MCKS-KAMP-PRISK. This includes a wide range of establishments and individuals, such as:
– Radio stations
– Pubs and bars
– Shopping malls
– Cinemas
– Barber shops
– Car washes
– Trains
– Mobile phone shops
– Concerts and exhibitions

Types of Licences
MCSK-KAMP-PRISK provides three main types of licences for music users to access the protected works of our members:
1. Broadcasting Licences
We issue Broadcasting Licences to television and radio stations, allowing them to broadcast music. Licence fees are determined individually, based on the broadcaster’s size and nature.
2. Communication to Public Licences
This licence covers a variety of music users, including clubs, hotels, bars, malls, restaurants, music venues, and other establishments that play music, (PSVs) and all commercial motor vehicles, including matatus, shuttles, buses, trains, and airplanes, through radios and disc or tape players. We evaluate licence fees according to your business type and applicable tariffs to ensure the most suitable rate.
In both cases, our consultant will visit your establishment for a site inspection and assessment. The licence officer will consider factors such as music usage, seating capacity, and the expected audience size benefiting from the music.
